As players round the game board, they risk their freedom as they attempt to escape the unrelenting grip of slavery. As players move towards their goal of freedom they are introduced to the Underground Railroad, a system of safe houses and hiding places that aided slaves escaping to freedom in Canada, Mexico, and elsewhere outside of the United States. Explains Longs, “Growing up in Columbus Ohio, right next to the Underground Railroad, touched me on a personal level. I felt a personal sense of responsibility to share and educate others about the heroic efforts of some of the most amazing men and women in Black History.” Dyland further explains, “These men and women courageously risked their own lives so African Americans could enjoy the freedoms and liberties we do today.”

Dyland Longs Sr. astonishingly accurate portrayal of slave life in America is both eye opening, educational, and highly enjoyable to play. “What makes my game unique is its authentic, educational, and extremely fun. Freedom Walk is a timeline from the beginning of slavery to the Emancipation Proclamation. “Dyland continues, “My goal was to design a one-of-a-kind game that the entire family could enjoy playing together. Before video games and ipods, families would gather around the kitchen table and play games. That sense of family seems to have been lost. My aim is to reconnect families.”
